Effective date: April 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Athanor ("Athanor," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Athanor mobile application (the "App").
Athanor is a bill-scanning and bill-management application designed to help users capture utility bills, extract structured bill information, organize records locally on their device, and export or back up those records when they choose.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information processed through the App. It does not apply to third-party services, websites, or applications that may be linked to, integrated with, or used alongside the App, including third-party AI providers, email providers, cloud backup destinations, and sharing destinations selected by you.
2. Information the App Processes
Depending on how you use the App, Athanor may process the following categories of information:
A. Bill and document content
- Photos or images of bills and receipts that you capture with your camera or select from your device
- Information extracted from those images, such as provider name, amount, currency, bill type, reference number, issue date, due date, service period, customer name, address, and summary information
- Payment status information and optional payment evidence images you choose to attach
B. App configuration and preferences
- Your selected language and theme preferences
- Your selected AI model configuration
- Your Google Generative Language API key, if you choose to enter one in the App
C. Export and backup data
- Export history generated inside the App
- Backup archives created at your request, which may include bill records, related images, payment evidence, preferences, export history, and AI configuration
D. Device permissions and related access
The App may request access to:
- Camera, to capture bill images
- Photo library, media library, or file storage, to select bill images, save attachments, import backups, or share exports
- Network access, to communicate with the AI service you configure
3. How We Use Information
The App uses information to:
- Capture and process bill images
- Send selected bill images and extraction prompts to the AI provider you configure so the App can extract structured bill data
- Store and display bill history inside the App
- Let you review, edit, organize, export, share, back up, and restore your records
- Save your preferences and selected configuration
- Maintain app functionality, reliability, and user-requested features
4. Local-First Processing
Athanor is designed as a local-first application.
Bill records, extracted fields, payment evidence, export history, preferences, and related attachments are stored locally on your device unless and until you choose to export, share, back up, or transmit them through a third-party service.
At the time of writing, Athanor does not include a custom developer-operated cloud backend for storing your bill records.
5. Third-Party AI Processing
If you use Athanor's AI extraction features, the App sends the selected bill image and an extraction prompt to Google's Generative Language API, using the API key you provide or otherwise configure in the App.
This means that bill images and related prompt content are transmitted to Google for processing when you choose to run AI extraction. Google may process that information in accordance with its own terms and privacy policies. We do not control Google's independent privacy or data handling practices.
You are responsible for reviewing the terms, privacy disclosures, retention practices, and regional transfer practices of any third-party AI service you choose to use with the App.
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not share your bill data with third parties except in the following circumstances:
- With Google, when you use AI extraction features
- With your chosen email, sharing, storage, or file destination when you export, share, or back up data using device or third-party tools
- When disclosure is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request
- To protect rights, safety, security, or the integrity of the App, where permitted by law
7. Data Retention
Because Athanor primarily stores data locally on your device, retention is generally controlled by you.
Data remains stored until you delete it from the App, remove the App, delete local files, overwrite your device, or restore/replace data through backup and import actions.
Backup archives and exported files created by you may remain in the selected device location, temporary storage, email drafts, cloud services, or recipient systems until you delete them.
If you enter an API key into the App, it may remain stored locally until you change or delete it, remove the App, or clear the App's local data.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable measures within the App's design to support the security of locally stored information and transmitted requests. However, no method of local storage, device security, transmission over the internet, or third-party processing is completely secure.
You are responsible for:
- Securing access to your device
- Managing any third-party accounts or API credentials you use with the App
- Reviewing exported files, backups, and email attachments before sharing them
If your bills contain sensitive personal or financial information, you should use the App carefully and only transmit data when necessary.
9. Your Choices and Controls
You can generally control your data by:
- Choosing whether to grant camera, photo, media, or file permissions
- Choosing whether to use AI extraction features
- Choosing whether to enter or remove your API key
- Editing or deleting bill records and attachments inside the App
- Deleting local backups, exports, and shared files
- Uninstalling the App or clearing its local storage, subject to your device settings
10. Children's Privacy
Athanor is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly design the App to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App in a way that creates a legal obligation for removal, contact us using the details below.
11. International Transfers
When you use third-party AI or sharing services, your data may be transmitted to and processed in countries other than your own, depending on the infrastructure and policies of those providers. Those transfers are governed by the third party's terms and privacy practices, not this Privacy Policy alone.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above. Your continued use of the App after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means the updated version will apply to your use of the App, to the extent permitted by law.
